Electronic Cigarette Users
Users of traditional cigarettes were often made to feel like outcasts when they used the product in certain places. Electronic cigarettes offer an alternative, but now users are finding that they feel more self-conscious when using the product than when they used regular cigarettes. Why exactly is this?
One reason would be because even though the product is supposed to allow a user to use them indoors, many restaurants, bars, and companies are banning them. In some instances users of the electronic cigarette are treated very aggressively.
When they attempt to explain what the product is they are not given a chance to explain. Regardless of them being safe and relatively harmless to people around, business owners have complete control over what they allow and what they don’t allow while on their premises.
Those who use the electronic cigarette are finding they have to hide themselves or keep themselves next to ashtrays in order to avoid negative comments from those around. All of this can be quite discouraging, especially when trying to explain to those who are not aware of what the product is. People who do not smoke at all simply do not understand.
Businesses that are banning their use claim even though they are said to be safe, there is still not enough known about them. Onlookers on certain premises simply see a person smoking and they assume it is just as hazardous as a regular cigarette would be.
People are also finding that they get really dirty looks when they are behind the wheel using the product. People do not know if an illegal activity is taking place, because sometimes they cannot get a clear image and it is easy to get confused.
The reality is that users of the electronic cigarette cannot get away from being treated just as a regular smoker would. What makes matters worse is people mistake the product for a marijuana smoking product or some other illegal drug paraphernalia.
Only until proper education about the product is widespread will users have an easier time in public places. It is going to take a long time for the public to fully accept the electronic cigarette, but in time acceptance will become more widespread. Until then the constant pressure put on users of the electronic cigarette can be just enough to make them question if its use is worth the hassle.
