Currently there are several smoking bans on electronic cigarettes throughout the United States. These laws also extend to workplace environments. Such laws have a negative effect in the long run. People who smoke feel they should have the opportunity to do so while they are at work. As a result of this several laws have been put in place that allow workers to excuse themselves so they are able to smoke, usually outside.

Such laws ensure that people who smoke are able to get their nicotine fix, but it comes at a cost. The cost involves several hours of productivity being wasted as a result. Studies were done that pitted smoking workers against non-smoking workers regarding productivity. Smokers were said to be as much as 20% less productive than their non-smoking counterparts. But this only applies to those who were not able to smoke as much while at work or not at all.
In places like the UK, electronic cigarettes are eliminating this decreased productivity. Over in the UK electronic cigarettes are still regarded as being okay. Electronic cigarettes are used in public all the time, and this includes the workplace. Those who decide to use electronic cigarettes at work in the UK are able to remain at their workstation and use the products openly. Such workers do not have to interrupt productivity in order to take a cigarette break.
The use of electronic cigarettes in the workplace allow for people to stay focused on work, complete tasks as they are supposed to, and meet important deadlines. And seeing as how no harmful smoke is being created by the products, surrounding employees are not impacted at all.
Over in the U.S electronic cigarettes are definitely not allowed in the workplace. But maybe if users of the products were to band together, they can sell employers on the benefits they could receive if they allowed them. 20% more productivity equals far more value. A company who is paying its employees to perform a job needs to make sure they are getting as much productivity out of them as possible.
Any company that is getting 20% less productivity as they could be getting will not be as competitive as a company that is getting that additional 20%. Getting such changes made will definitely prove difficult. Certain people are offended by the product in working environments no matter how safe they might be.
